Mosaic pattern of the liver is due to hepatic congestion. This finding on CT or MRI can be secondary to hepatic venous outflow obstruction, requiring careful search for an obstruction (heart, inferior vena cava, hepatic veins). If an obstruction has been ruled out, a general disease (severe infection, cancer) or a medication (oral contraceptive, steroids) can also be a cause.
