Embolisation artérielle bronchique dans le traitement des hémoptysies

Hemoptysis usually originates from the systemic arterial supply to the lung. It commonly occurs in patients with chronic broncho-pulmonary disease. First described by Remy and al. in 1973, bronchial artery embolization provided a new interventional radiologic approach for managing hemoptysis. The proper application of bronchial arteriography and embolization techniques depends on a thorough knowledge of the arterial anatomy, a meticulous catheterization technique and adequate positioning of the catheter. In these optimal conditions of safety, bronchial artery embolization is the treatment of choice for severe and recurrent hemoptysis.
