Prevention and treatment of nasopharyngeal stenosis

The problem of nasopharyngeal stenosis is an uncommon complication of procedures such as tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, pharyngeal reconstruction for velopharyngeal insufficiency, or other procedures in the pharynx. The otolaryngologist needs to carefully assess the patient's symptoms due to the stenosis, the extent of the stenosis, and then have a toolbox of options to treat each problem. This article discusses management of nasopharyngeal stenosis with local flap pharyngoplasty and sternocleidomastoid myocutaneous flap reconstruction.
