An anti-herpes simplex virus-type 1 agent from Xylaria mellisii (BCC 1005)

A structurally unique polyketide, mellisol and 1,8-dihydroxynaphthol 1-O-α-glucopyranoside, have been isolated from the fungus Xylaria mellisii. The relative stereostructure of mellisol was determined on the basis of X-ray crystallographic data.
