Theory and experiments on the structure of 7Â Ã alumina films grown on Ni3Al

STM shows that 7 Å thick well-ordered Al2O3/Ni3Al(1 1 0) films are Kappa-like alumina, in agreement with DFT calculations. The calculations also predict the presence of internal voids which may store atomic hydrogen.
