Enhanced thermal stability by pre-charged hydrogen of a Zr-based bulk metallic glass

Different doses of hydrogen were electrochemically charged into a Zr41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 bulk metallic glass (BMG). By means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) techniques, we found that an enhanced thermal stability could be obtained with the existence of the pre-charged hydrogen, evidenced in terms of the characteristic temperatures and activation energy for crystallization of the BMG subjected to isothermal annealing treatment.
