The serviceability criteria for encased-plate concrete beams

This paper describes the serviceability requirements of plate reinforced beams with short shear spans. The provision of steel plates, for shear reinforcement in reinforced concrete beams, allows the design of compact, high capacity shear beams. Prediction of the service limit criteria, and the associated service capacity, is required to allow full utilisation of this novel construction method.
