Making sense of adoption: Integration and differentiation from the perspective of adopted children in middle childhood

► 43 children adopted as preschoolers were interviewed in middle childhood. ► Interviews explored children's understanding and feelings about adoption. ► Almost all children felt integrated in their adoptive families. ► Children's feelings about their birth family and about adoption varied widely. ► Children need information and time to talk about adoption.
