High-solid mesophilic methane fermentation of food waste with an emphasis on Iron, Cobalt, and Nickel requirements

► This study investigated the effect of trace metals on mesophilic methane fermentation of food waste. ► The most suitable values for Fe/COD, Co/COD, and Ni/COD were determined. ► This is the first report to identify the trace metals requirements based on bacterial growth.
