Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of Kanlow switchgrass by thermotolerant Kluyveromyces marxianus IMB3: The effect of enzyme loading, temperature and higher solid loadings

► SSF of Kanlow switchgrass by thermotolerant Kluyveromyces marxianus IMB3. ► Accellerase 1500 at 0.7 mL g−1 glucan and 45 °C produced the highest ethanol yield. ► About 32 g L−1 ethanol was produced from 12% solids in batch and fed-batch SSFs. ► 33% reduction in enzyme loading in fed-batch SSF and 12% solids compared to batch SSF.
