Enhanced resistance of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to vanillin by expression of lacA from Trametes sp. AH28-2

► The resistance of yeast to the vanillin was improved by expressing the Trametes sp. AH28-2 laccase gene lacA. ► The laccase secretion was hastened by overexpressing the chaperone gene KAR2. ► The recombinant strain are more suitable for the fermentation of pretreated lignocellulosics.
