Indian culinary plants enhance glucose-induced insulin secretion and glucose consumption in INS-1 β-cells and 3T3-L1 adipocytes

► We evaluate six Indian plants for their antidiabetic potential in vitro. ► Aqueous plant extracts enhance insulin secretion activity of INS-1 cells. ► Some plant extracts also stimulate glucose consumption in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. ► The results reflect the presence of some bioactive compounds in these plants.
