► Six Pediococcus pentosaceus acts against intestinal pathogens. ► The isolates exhibit strong hydrophobicity and co-aggregation. ► They produce β-galactosidase which can reduce lactose content in sample. ► Live and dead cells of isolate VJ13 effectively assimilate cholesterol. ► They adhere effectively to Caco-2 cells and prevent pathogen adhesion.
