A proteomic approach to identification of plutonium-binding proteins in mammalian cells

► Using LC-MS/MS, seven cellular Pu-binding proteins were identified in rat PC12 cells. ► Most of the identified proteins are also known to bind Ca2+ or Mg2+. ► These proteins have functional roles in pro-proliferation and anti-apoptosis. ► MetaCore™ analysis of these proteins indicated a pathway for neoplastic diseases. ► A biochemical link between Pu and these proteins in cancer development is suggested.
