Detection of glucose in synthetic tear fluid using dually functionalized gold nanoparticles

► A new approach using gold nanoparticles functionalized with a fluorophore and boronic acid moieties for the detection of glucose in tear fluid is devised. ► The method relies on the revival of quenched fluorescence in the presence of glucose. ► The potential of the method is assessed by measuring glucose in real tear fluid.
