Color response of tri-armed azo host colorimetric sensors and test kit for fluoride

► Five new chromogenic tripodal receptors were synthesized. ► Tripodal receptors showed a distinct color change in presence of fluoride. ► Easy-to-prepare test kit provides a convenient and reliable detection of fluoride ions in everyday applications. ► The fluoride in toothpaste conveniently detect even at low concentration.
