Evaluating the sustainability of a regional system using Fisher information in the San Luis Basin, Colorado

► The order and stability of the San Luis Basin (SLB) region was assessed over time. ► Fisher information (FI) captures dynamic behavior by monitoring system variables. ► FI was computed from 53 variables which characterized the SLB from 1980 to 2005. ► The system is stable with slight movement away from sustainability in recent years.
