► Phenoxo bridged dinuclear Cu(II) complexes of a reduced Schiff base ligand. ► Distortion of square pyramidal geometry around Cu(II) depends upon anionic coligands. ► The magnitude of coupling constants depends upon the extent of distortion. ► The bridging angles and bond distances determine the magnitude of coupling constants. ► The out-of-plane shift of the phenyl group is also important for coupling.
