Effect of organic acids as additives on the performance of thermoplastic starch/polyester blown films

► Malic, citric and tartaric acids were added in starch/PBAT blends. ► Mechanical and barrier properties were improved when the acids were added. ► Changes in relative humidity increased the elongation of films and made them fragile. ► More homogeneous structure was observed for the samples with citric and tartaric acids. ► The produced films could be an alternative for non-biodegradable plastics.
