Aggregation of some water-soluble derivatives of chitin in aqueous solutions: Role of the degree of acetylation and effect of hydrogen bond breaker

► Aggregation of chitosan, O-carboxymethylchitin, and di-N,N-carboxymethylchitosan. ► It proceeds even in the absence of N-acetyl-d-glucosamine units. ► Hydrogen bonds breaker 7 M urea cannot destroy the aggregates completely. ► Crystallization of junction zones between macromolecules is suggested.
