- Extracellular polysaccharide production (EPS) of Bacillus megaterium RB-05 was optimized in glucose mineral salts medium (GMSM) by response surface method (RSM).
- Production dynamics were studied following classical kinetic models of Monod, Kono and Asai, and Luedeking and Pirret. Kinetic coefficients suggest for the possible scale up production. According to the used kinetic models, EPS production was found to be growth associated as maximum specific growth rate (μmax) and specific EPS production rate were calculated to be (rp) 0.65 ± 0.01 hâ1 and 0.215 g gâ1 cell respectively.
- Glucose was found as the most effective amongst all the carbon sources used and EPS production was enhance up to 1.12 ± 0.062 g lâ1 with l-aspergine and d-biotin supplementation.
- Elemental study and FT-IR spectra confirmed the preliminary composition and functional groups of the EPS.
- IC50 values of the EPS promise its potency as a free radical scavenger in in vitro studies.
