Isothermal crystallization kinetics of thermoplastic starch/poly(lactic acid) composites

► The thermoplastic starch/poly(lactic acid) (TPS/PLA) blends were prepared by PLA blending with glycerol plasticized-starch. ► The isothermal crystallization kinetics of neat PLA and TPS/PLA composites was studied by DSC. ► TPS acts as a nucleating agent, improving the crystallinity of the PLA in composites. ► Because of the presence of TPS, there exist constraints on the mobility of the PLA chains in the composite melt.
