► IGC is very useful method to study the surface properties of natural fibers. ► Alkaline treatment involves the removal with more relevance to acid components. ► Alkaline treatment decrease γSD and increase the active sites for specific interaction. ► Specific adsorption process in treated fibers is predominantly due to basic active sites.
