Layer by Layer ammonium polyphosphate-based coatings for flame retardancy of polyester-cotton blends

► Layer by Layer (LbL) assembly has been employed to prepare ammonium polyphosphate-based coatings. ► Polyester-cotton fabrics have been treated through LbL to enhance their flame retardancy properties. ► Chitosan and silica have been coupled with ammonium polyphosphate as flame retardant systems. ► Such coatings have been able to suppress the afterglow phenomenon of the blend during combustion.
