Structure and properties of new natural cellulose fabrics from Cordia dichotoma

► Newly identified fabrics from the tree Cordia dichotoma were extracted. ► Chemical composition studies showed that the alkali treated fabrics contain α-cellulose ∼77.8%. ► The crystallinity of the fabrics increased upon alkali treatment compared to bleached and untreated fabrics. ► The alkali treated fabrics exhibited the highest tensile strength compared to the untreated and bleached fabrics. ► The structure and properties of the fabrics indicated that they could be suitable for the development of green composites.
