On the correction of perturbations due to data assimilation in ocean circulation models

Several numerical experiments have been performed in the tropical Atlantic. The results showed that the method is able to correct the velocity field smoothening unrealistic wave patterns due to assimilation. Future developments and applications of the method to geophysical research are also discussed.
