Impact-induced mantle dynamics on Mars

► We model the effects of basin-forming impacts on the mantle dynamics of early Mars. ► A single basin-forming impact can alter the flow field of the entire mantle. ► Such an impact promotes long-lived single-plume mantle convection. ► Cumulative effects of multiple impacts are expected. ► The alteration of the mantle dynamics is dominated by the five largest known impacts.
