On the feasibility of characterizing jovian auroral electrons via H3+ infrared line-emission analysis

► We propose a method for estimating jovian auroral electron properties using IR lines. ► This method is based on the departure from LTE varies with lines and altitude. ► This method is not realistic for the Saturn case due to large temperature dependence. ► Application to empirical observations requires enough time and/or spatial integration.
