Le législateur reviendra-t-il sur sa décision lors du réexamen de la loi de bioéthique en 2010 ? « Bébé-médicament » ou « bébé-instrument » ?

“Baby-drug” designates a child conceived for the purpose of curing an older brother or sister suffering from a familial genetic disease by use of stem cells harvested from the umbilical cord at birth. In France, the decree of December 23, 2006 stipulates that this technique, which involves a double preimplantation diagnosis, is only authorized under “experimental” conditions. Reducing a child medically to the role of an object whose value depends on its technical usefulness as well as the psychological stress which it could come to bear raise legitimate ethical issues concerning the worthiness of this practice. Moreover, the international network of cord blood banks has rendered this practice medically impertinent. Should the Parliament revisit its decision when considering the upcoming revision of bioethical laws?
