La relation de soin éthique ou l'art de conjuguer le singulier au pluriel

Three dimensions can be identified to describe the relationships established between the nursing staff and hospitalized patients: humanization, which consists in accepting that the intuitive comprehension of the Other arises from universal human predispositions; assignment, which consists in defining the patient to identifying categories, starting with that of being “ill”; and personalization, which recognizes the supporting senses upon which the patient relies for self definition as a sick person. This article attempts to demonstrate how a relationship of ethical healthcare relies on the intersection of these three dimensions identifying the hospitalized, and the need for developing the art of conjugating what is unique yet categorized and universal.
