Le médecin, le malade et la confiance

Trust is one of the central features of patient-physician relationships. Although evidence shows that the majority of patients continue to trust physicians to act in their best interests, rapid changes in the health care system are feared by many to be threatening patients' trust in their physicians. The new concerns about patient trust have triggered recognition of the need for a better understanding of the trust in the patient-physician relationship. The aim of this paper was to present the conceptual model of trust in general and in medicine, then to present the results of the English research in measuring trust in medicine, finally to examine how the patients and the physicians have tried to resolve the problem of mistrust in the French health care system.
