Mechanism for the enhanced peroxidation of linoleic acid by a titanium dioxide/hypochlorite system

► We investigated the mechanism for peroxidation of linoleate by a TiO2/HOCl system. ► Peroxidation occurred via the well-established free radical mechanism. ► Electrophilic oxidation by O2(1Δg) (from 18:1 monochlorohydrins) also occurred. ► These two reactions combined resulted in significant peroxidation.
