NHE-1 blockade reversed changes in calcium transient in myocardial slices from isoproterenol-induced hypertrophied rat left ventricle

► Multi-cellular Ca2+ transient duration was obtained in left ventricular slices. ► Isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy showed down-regulation of SERCA2a protein. ► Shortened Ca2+ transient duration suggests up-regulation of SERCA2a activity. ► A novel NHE-1 selective inhibitor normalized shortened Ca2+ transient duration. ► Normalization of SECA2a activity may contribute.
