Effect of influenza A virus non-structural protein 1(NS1) on a mouse model of diabetes mellitus induced by Streptozotocin

► We constructed successfully the NS1 expressing plasmid. ► NS1 was used for the first time in diabetic mice induced by STZ. ► NS1 resulted in reduction in hyperglycemia and increase in insulin contents. ► NS1 ameliorated insulitis. ► NS1 is effective on the prevention and treatment of diabetic mice induced by STZ.
