Bile-acid-induced calcium signaling in mouse esophageal epithelial cells

► DCA increased [Ca2+]i in esophageal epithelial cells in pH-dependent manners. ► The [Ca2+]i increase was observed also in cells in stratified squamous epithelium. ► The combination of acid and DCA is necessary to cause a marked increase [Ca2+]i. ► Conjugated bile acids had no effect on the cells.
