The new HNO donor, 1-nitrosocyclohexyl acetate, increases contractile force in normal and β-adrenergically desensitized ventricular myocytes

► The new HNO donor, 1-nitrosocyclohexyl acetate (NCA), increases sarcomere shortening in a concentration-dependent manner in normal and pathological ventricular myocytes. ► NCA increases sarcomere shortening to an approximately twofold greater extent than Ca2+-transients. ► NCA does not affect diastolic Ca2+ or SR Ca2+ content. ► NCA increases force of contraction in isolated hearts.
