Role of different nitric oxide synthase isoforms in a murine model of acute lung injury and sepsis

► Neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) increases oxidative stress after lung injury and sepsis. ► nNOS-gene deficiency prevents the development of oxidative/nitrosative stress in the lung. ► However, nNOS-gene deficiency does not improve survival in this murine sepsis model.
