Probing molecular interactions of poly(styrene-co-maleic acid) with lipid matrix models to interpret the therapeutic potential of the co-polymer

► SMA-lipid matrix models varying in composition and surface charge prepared. ► ATR-FTIR detected SMA-induced reorganization in packing of lipid molecules. ► DSC revealed thermotropic phase behavior change and fluidization of vesicles. ► NMR identified changes in polar regions and weak immobilization of SMA in bilayers. ► Presence of SMA affected structural integrity of model membranes.
