Origin of ruffles: Linkage to other protrusions, filopodia and lamellae

► Deconstruct cell features and analyze correlation coefficients among protrusions. ► Tumor promoter-stimulated ruffling related to filopodia (F4) and lamellae (F5). ► Cytochalasins (Cyto D) suppressed ruffling but none of the other four protrusions. ► Linkage of ruffling to F4 and F5 can be reversed by Cyto D in PMA-treated cells. ► Protrusions F4, F5 and F7 correspond to dynamically regulated cytoplasmic domains.
