The peroxynitrite donor 3-morpholinosydnonimine activates Nrf2 and the UPR leading to a cytoprotective response in endothelial cells

► HUVEC and EAhy926 endothelial cells were exposed to SIN-1, a peroxynitrite donor. ► SIN-1 induced Nrf2 activation, HO-1 overexpression and UPR activation in cells. ► Peroxynitrite protected cells against cell death induced by serum starvation. ► Peroxynitrite limited apoptosis, favoring LC3-II formation in a Nrf2 dependent way.
