Mitochondrial DNA toxicity compromises mitochondrial dynamics and induces hippocampal antioxidant defenses

► Mitochondria are dynamic that can be actively transported within the cell to satisfy local needs. ► The distribution of mitochondria is important for neurons due to the morphological complexity. ► We report that mitochondrial distribution is disturbed in mice with increased mtDNA damage. ► We identify features comparable to the early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
