Neonatal domoic acid treatment produces alterations to prepulse inhibition and latent inhibition in adult rats

► Animal models enable the study of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms of human disorders. ► Neonatal treatment with a kainate receptor agonist altered adult rat behviour. ► Alterations in PPI and latent LI were found. ► Results suggest this paradigm has potential as a novel animal model of schizophrenia.
