Efficient extracellular secretion of an endoglucanase and a β-glucosidase in E. coli

► We have selected two cellulolytic enzymes for expression and secretion in E. coli. ► The selected enzymes, endoglucanase and β-glucosidase, were fused with OsmY. ► Both enzymes got efficiently secreted into the culture media. ► The two enzymes were co-expressed either via synthetic operon or through gene fusion. ► Enzymes expressed via synthetic operon had higher extracellular activities.
