Opposite effects of P2X7 and P2Y2 nucleotide receptors on α-secretase-dependent APP processing in Neuro-2a cells

► α-Secretase activity can be modulated by two nucleotide receptors in N2a cells. ► Activation of a P2X7 receptor reduces α-secretase-dependent APP cleavage. ► α-Secretase proteolytic activity is enhanced by activation of a P2Y2 receptor. ► P2X7R and P2Y2R could be novel therapeutic targets in Alzheimer's disease.
