A new and efficient method to obtain benzalkonium chloride adapted cells of Listeria monocytogenes

► The proposed new method to obtain BAC adapted cells is more effective and less time-consuming. ► A maximum adaptation level was demonstrated in all L. monocytogenes assayed. ► The maximum level of adaptation could contribute to assure control of L. monocytogenes.
