Multilocus variable number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) of Streptococcus pyogenes

► We designed a new multiplex PCR based method of to differentiate between S. pyogenes strains. ► The method has high resolution with Simpson's Index of diversity 0.957. ► The method can detect differences between strains that share the same emm type, ST and PFGE profile.
