Effect of CDP-choline on age-dependent modifications of energy- and glutamate-linked enzyme activities in synaptic and non-synaptic mitochondria from rat cerebral cortex

► CDP-choline is a neuroprotectant and memory enhancing drug in age-related brain diseases. ► The drug modifies molecular and neurochemical parameters related to brain bioenergetics. ► The effects of aging and CDP-choline on mitochondrial enzyme activities were evaluated. ► Enzyme activities vary respect to the type of mitochondria, particularly at 18 months. ► The present results are in accordance with the known pharmacodynamic features of CDP-choline.
