This data article study the potential of a modified-green alga, Cladophora sericioides, collected from the Persian Gulf for the Cu2+ adsorption from aqueous solutions. C. sericioides was modified by 3 mg/L L-cysteine for enhancing Cu adsorption. The effect of initial copper concentration (20- 100 mg/L) and solution pH (2–11) on the copper adsorption by simple and modified algae is disclosed. At same experimental conditions, a maximum of 65 and 95% of copper ions with initial concentration of 20 mg/L was removed by simple and modified algae, respectively. The SEM of the fresh and Cu-loaded of simple and modified algae is also presented. According to the FTIR study, the functional groups on the surface of the modified algae was found to be –OH, C–H, –NH, –SH, and –COOH. This data may be helpful for anyone willing to outline a modification of alga to obtain the satisfactory performance removal of pollutants.
