Using chiral stationary phase cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) (CHIRALCEL OD) as a chiral stationary phase, baseline chiral separation of naproxen was achieved in normal-phase chromatographic mode. The influences of the composition of mobile phase, the flow rate, the temperature and the injected quantity on the naproxen enantiomer retentivity and selectivity were examined and discussed. The optimized chromatographic conditions were as follows: hexane-isopropanol-glacial acetic acid (97:3:1, v/v) as the mobile phase, at a flow rate of 1.0 ml min−1 and detection at the wavelength of 254 nm. The column temperature was fixed at 35°C. This method was used to study the dynamic separation process of naproxen methyl ester in a membrane bioreactor.
