(The role of Jane Marcet into the spreading and education of chemistry in the 19th Century)The objective of this research consisted on a study about the role of Jane Marcet into the spreading and education of chemistry to a wide audience through her long-term book Conversations on Chemistry in the 19th Century. Her efforts on the spreading of science were relevant to share the most important theories concerning the scientific and chemical knowledge among different audiences, devoted especially to women and youngsters, through the different editions between 1806 to 1853, contributing significantly to the chemistry education, particularly in the United States of America. Despite the great controversy due to the uncontrolled number of editions, it is remarkable that this text is a strong witness of the active participation of women in science. Her scientific rigor and contribution to narrative strategies in the teaching-learning of chemistry, make the author of Conversations on Chemistry, Jane Marcet, to be considered not only as an important and active woman involved in the scientific community in the first half of the 19th Century in England, but also as a relevant character in the spreading and education of chemistry to a wider audience.
